The Golden Rule of Packing
On the Camino, every item has weight—physically and mentally.
The rule is simple:
If you don’t need it, don’t carry it.
Essential Items
Backpack: 30–40L
Footwear: Broken-in hiking shoes
Clothing:
- 2–3 shirts
- 1–2 pairs of pants/shorts
- Lightweight jacket
Other essentials:
- Water bottle
- First aid kit
- Lightweight towel
- Pilgrim credential
Common Mistakes
- Overpacking “just in case” items
- Bringing brand-new shoes
- Ignoring weight distribution
What You Learn Along the Way
By day three, most pilgrims realize they brought too much.
By day seven, they understand what they truly need.
And by the end, the lesson extends beyond the backpack.
A Deeper Journey
Packing for the Camino is ultimately about letting go.
The Pilgrims Table explores this idea through five characters who each arrive carrying more than they realize—and leave with far less.
